FAQ
Q: I just started drifting, is this event beginner-friendly?
A: Absolutely!! Everyone has to experience their first day on track, and we’d love to help you have a good one. There are plenty of experienced drivers around to give you some pointers or even ride along with you and help point out some areas you could improve, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Q: Can I drift my convertible?
A: Yes but you will need at a minimum a rollover bar.

Q: Do I need a roll cage to drift on track?
A: You don’t need a full cage to participate. Cages with door bars are only required for tandem drifting unless approved by the staff. Other than that, buy your pass, bring your helmet, make sure you meet the tech requirements and you’re good to go.

Q: What’s the layout like/how does the track time work/is there hot lapping?
A: We run two different layouts throughout the day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. We don’t have the space for a hot lap layout, so there is a start and finish. Both layouts will be explained in the driver's meetings.

Q: Will there be a tire machine at the track?
A: Yes, there will be 2 tire techs on site.

Q: Can I get a ride a long?
A: You’re more than welcome to ask any of the drivers in the pits for a ride. Most drivers are more than happy to help someone experience their first ride in a drift car. It usually helps get you in the car if you have your own helmet for the ride.

Q: Is there food and drink at the track?
A: Yes, there are multiple food trucks on site. No grills of any kind are allowed in the pits.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Unfortunately no pets will be allowed.

If you have any questions please reach out via Facebook or email midwestshredfest@gmail.com.

ABOUT THE BAND: Surf Zombies raise surf rock from the dead with fast, crazy, original instrumentals that straddle retro surf, bubblegum punk and garage rock, conjuring images of beach parties, Saturday morning cartoons, and hot rod car shows. The driving rhythms, swirling tremolo, crashing spring reverb from dueling guitars and authentic growl of vintage tube amps make for a truly weird Midwestern wonder. Surf Zombies have played in all corners of Iowa and frequently visit Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, and Nebraska. They twice shared the stage with the late surf guitar godfather Dick Dale, have a beer named after them from Iowa Brewing Company, and received the Spirit Award from the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Midwest Antique & Art and The Collector's Eye Shows
Oct

Midwest Antique & Art and The Collector's Eye Shows

The Midwest Antique & Art Show in conjunction with The Collector’s Eye Antique Show will be presented on Sunday, October 26th at Hawkeye Downs Fairgrounds in Cedar Rapids, IA. This show has earned a well-deserved reputation for attracting high quality dealers, nationally known for outstanding presentation of American Folk Art and Americana.

Art of all genres is the main attraction of the show. Whether it be the proportions and original surface of an 18th century piece of furniture or a carved wooden cigar store Indian or a naïve portrait of a woman from the 1830’s to the innovative, original designs of mid 20th century furniture, garden, holiday, pottery…it is all wonderful examples of art.

Advertising comes in great examples of artistic design and will be represented by several dealers from both shows. Dennis Healzer from Illinois, Mr. & Mrs. Smith from Harland, IA and Zap Props from Chicago, IL will be bringing exceptional advertising items. Treasured smalls for any collector will be displayed by several dealers such as Country Love from Metamora, IL, JoDan’s Antiques from Hiawatha, IA, Elizabeth Johnson from Kansas City, MO and Main Street Antiques from West Branch, IA.

Folk art is one of the top features of the Midwest Show and will be represented by Tom van Deest, Larry Carrol and Thom Rawson from Cedar Rapids along with Nancy & Craig Cheney from Mansfield, OH as well as Jeff Roelof from Kalamazoo, MI and Scott Heffley from Kansas City, MO.

Nationally known furniture dealers Jim & Jody Lowery from New York, Rich Myers and Suzanne Baker from Indiana and Craig Illa from Missouri will be bringing serious merchandise for serious buyers.

There will be phenomenal garden and holiday items for any seasoned collectors.

The show is continually evolving and is attractive not only to the traditional Americana audiences but also to the younger, hip generation as well. It is still a living show after 38 plus years.

Parking is free with a $10 admission good for both shows. The Collector’s Eye Show celebrates it’s 20th year at this show.

Website for both shows is www. MWAntiqueshow.com which will show photos from previous shows, dealers lists and hotel information. There is also a Facebook page for the Midwest Antique & Art Show which will feature our dealers and their specific merchandise.

Please join us on Sunday, October 26th at 10 am at Hawkeye Downs Exhibition Center, 4400 6th St SW, Cedar Rapids, IA.

For more information on the Midwest Show, call Cathy at (319) 389-7779 and for the Collector’s Eye, call Colleen at (319) 360-4301.

WHAT IS ENDURO RACING?

Enduro racing (also known as endurance racing) is a very popular and inexpensive type of racing that is fun for anyone! The race starts with a short warm-up lap, and then drivers complete timed laps around the track. Enduro races are much longer, as they often last several hours.

These races are designed on our asphalt track at Hawkeye Downs. In recent years, our racing team has designed a road course with obstacles ranging from small jumps to high-speed corners, making it perfect for enthusiasts of all levels of driving skill. While not every enduro race includes a road course, some races during the season will include the added challenge. Learn more about how to get involved at https://www.hawkeyedowns.org/enduro

Wall of Fame Night

The 2025 Wall of Fame Night is scheduled for Friday, July 25th, with the induction presentations being held on the start-finish line during the race intermission!

It's no secret that past race car drivers have paved the way for present-day drivers. The Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame program honors individuals who have significantly contributed to the history and success of the speedway. Each year during the "Wall of Fame Night," new inductees, including drivers, crew members, and other influential community members, are recognized for their dedication and impact in a special ceremony on the track.

Since 2002, the Hawkeye Downs Speedway Wall of Fame program has been managed by a dedicated group of volunteers who oversee the nomination and induction processes. These volunteers play a crucial role in honoring individuals who have significantly contributed to the history and success of Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Hawkeye Downs board and staff are grateful to have a strong group of supporters to celebrate and honor Hawkeye Downs' racing community each year!

In 2025, Hawkeye Downs will celebrate five inductees into the Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame. This year's honorees include Bob Ballard (driver, car owner), Landon Cassill (driver), Max Rogers (sprint car owner), Ken Schrader (driver), and Jim Williams (driver, fabricator).

In addition to the Wall of Fame Night, Hawkeye Downs will host its Decades of Speed Car Show beginning July 18th, through July 26th. Get all the details here.

Hawkeye Downs is honored to host Iowa Concerns of Police Survivors on Saturday July 12th, as we go #RacingForACause! Iowa Concerns of Police Survivors (better known as C.O.P.S.) provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria. Iowa C.O.P.S. provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public on the need to provide ongoing support to the law enforcement profession and its survivors.

50/50 RAFFLE FOR A CAUSE

Proceeds of the 50/50 raffle will benefit Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa in honor of Keith Fleck.

The Miller 100 is known locally for supporting charitable causes. Over its history, the race has raised over $300,000 for various charities, thanks to the efforts of the Fleck family.

If you have any questions please reach out via Facebook or email midwestshredfest@gmail.com
