The Gazette: Hawkeye Downs hoping ‘momentum’ carries into year 101

THE GAZETTE - It’s the start of a new season at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

Opening Day of HD’s NASCAR Weekly Racing Series kicks off Saturday afternoon with competition set to begin at 2:05 p.m.

Saturday’s program will feature races in the Legends, Hornets, Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Sportsmans, Sports Mods and HD Dawgs divisions.

“Our car counts are going up. We’ve got some new drivers coming to race with us, and we have drivers coming back, so races are going to be exciting,” Hawkeye Downs Race Director Brian Gibson said. “We’re also going to do some fun things for the fans in the stands. There’s a lot of energy, activity and entertainment to go along with the racing.
