Despite 2025 cancer diagnosis, Vozenilek continues to compete at a high level

CEDAR RAPIDS - It’d take a lot to keep Chad Vozenilek from getting behind the wheel on race day.

OK, that’s an understatement.

Vozenilek, 52, of Cedar Rapids, is the points leader in the Hornets division at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

While maintaining his competitive edge on the asphalt, he’s also been navigating challenges away from the track.

“I make it a point to take a nap on race day,” Vozenilek said. “I’ve been working to keep my energy level up, just trying to get through the season. The heat really knocks me down.”

In May 2025, Vozenilek was diagnosed with stage III prostate cancer.
